Honorable.Michael.C.Chupa

Judge Michael C. Chupa was appointed to the position of District Judge for Warren and Center Line on December 18, 2013 and was unanimously elected to continue in that position in November of 2014. Judge Chupa was re-elected to the position of 37th District Court judge on November 3, 2020 and has continued serving his communities through today.

Judge Chupa left the law firm Chupa and Associates, a firm he founded in 1995, to assume the responsibilities of District Court Judge. He and his sister, attorney Jennifer Chupa, worked together for many years serving Warren clients. Mr. Chupa specialized in criminal defense work and complex real estate transactions. He commenced working in the legal field on June 3, 1991 by prosecuting cases on behalf of the city of Warren in the same courtroom he now presides in. Judge Chupa was instrumental, as a volunteer defense attorney, in establishing and helping operate a drug/ sobriety court in the 41B District Court.

Judge Michael C. Chupa was born and raised in Warren and has been active in his community his whole life. He enjoys working with children and students and has been a guest speaker at many schools from grade school, middle and high schools, Macomb Community College and once at Ferris State University. He coached basketball and baseball for many years with the Warren Police Athletic League and most recently multiple seasons of soccer for AYSO 708 in Warren. Judge Chupa was universally elected by his peer judges to serve several terms as president of the Macomb County District Judge’s Association.

Judge Michael C. Chupa is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University and his Juris Doctorate from Detroit College of Law. He graduated from Immaculate Conception School, now located in Warren.  Judge Chupa has reaffirmed his commitment to helping court involved people improve their lives by volunteering to serve as the 37th District Court’s judge for the treatment/ sobriety court programs since April of 2022. He works tirelessly to aid people struggling with substances to find the way to the treasured destination of sober living. Judge Chupa is married to Annmarie, a second grade teacher and he and his wife have three amazing and very active children.
